These are the most vital needs before attending school. To help the children develop skills in talking and listening. To be familiar with and enjoy books. To recognise their own names and to begin to write them. To begin and understand that letters have sounds, and that writing has meaning. To make the children aware of maths in everyday situations. To practice sorting, matching and comparing and to recognise patterns. To introduce the mathematical names of shapes, such as circle, triangle, and the terms we use to describe position, size and quantity.
